ARTICLE SIX

HOURS

A. Hours of Work

1. Except as otherwise specifically provided herein, counselors shall work six hours and twenty minutes on each school day, exclusive of a lunch period, and such additional time as the by-laws provide.

2. The parties agree, effective February 2006, to extend the workday in “non Extended Time Schools” by an additional 10 minutes. The gross annual salary of employees covered by this agreement will be increased in accordance with the salary schedules herein.

B. Activities Included in Working Time

Time spent by a counselor in visiting homes or agencies, in attendance at professional conferences, in preparing special reports, and in related guidance activities which may be performed outside the school or outside of regular school hours shall be deemed a part of the counselor's prescribed working time if such activities have been approved by the head of the school as part of the program of guidance for the school.

C. Work Year

Guidance counselors shall report for professional days on the Thursday and Friday preceding Labor Day and on Brooklyn-Queens Day.

The official school year calendar shall provide a one week February mid-winter recess which includes Washington's Birthday, without reducing the number of instructional days for students.
