Undegraduate Courses for School Secretaries
School secretaries can fulfill licensing requirements, work toward differentials and improve their knowledge and skills through NYSUT/ELT and UFT credit-bearing courses designed especially for them.
School secretaries must earn 30 undergraduate credits within five years of getting their licenses to meet NYC DOE requirements. Twenty-four credits can be from any college courses, such as those offered through this program. The DOE requires 6 credits in SCHOOL RECORDS AND ACCOUNTS: OFFICE SYSTEMS AND PROCEDURES I and GENERAL EDUCATION ELECTIVE: THE SCHOOL SECRETARY—OFFICE SYSTEMS AND PROCEDURES II.
St. Francis College
BACHELOR OF ARTS IN PROFESSIONAL STUDIES — 128 Undergraduate Credits
TAKE UNDERGRADUATE COURSES INDIVIDUALLY OR
APPLY THEM TO A BACHELOR'S DEGREE PROGRAM
The UFT Teacher Center and NYSUT/ELT have collaborated with St. Francis College to present a new program for professional growth, leading to a bachelor’s degree in Professional Studies. Students may take this opportunity, offered on a course-by-course basis, to obtain the skills, discipline and perspective of a liberal arts education.
- Professional Studies students have a variety of opportunities to earn credits for college level-learning undertaken elsewhere, in addition to being able to transfer a significant number of credits from other institutions.
- The program features a seven-course sequence that fulfills the core curriculum required in traditional majors and provides an excellent preparation for career enhancement and/or graduate education. Students have the option of designing, with faculty advisement, their own individualized undergraduate degree programs.
- Faculty advisement is mandatory for all degree-seeking students. No more than 30 undergraduate credits should be completed before contacting Dr. Allen Burdowski, associate dean of Professional Studies. To make an appointment, call 1-718-489-5324 or email the college.
- Degree-seeking students are encouraged to complete as many St. Francis College courses as are offered through NYSUT/ELT, at the reduced off-campus rate of $560 per 3-undergraduate credit course, as the college will accept before matriculating.
- After matriculation, students can complete this program of studies at St. Francis College. School Secretaries may take courses to fulfill their NYS licensing requirements.
The Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies is a degree completion program designed especially for working adults and other nontraditional learners. The Professional Studies program provides students with the flexibility to tailor their educational experience to meet both personal and professional objectives. At the same time, the program provides sufficient academic structure to maintain the high standards of a St. Francis College bachelor’s degree.
