Back to School
When the child returns to school, will he/she return to my room?
A child who returns to school after caseworkers have intervened should be
returned to his/her original classroom unless circumstances dictate otherwise.
These circumstances could include whether the child has returned to live
with his/her parents and the conditions surrounding that return. If the
child has been placed in foster care, he/she may be transferred to the
school appropriate to the new residence.
The UFT is working for better coordination between the DOE and the Administration
for Children’s Services on these issues.
What should I say or do if the child returns to my classroom?
Welcome him/her back as you would any child returning from a long absence. Help the student get re-established and comfortable in the classroom. Then treat him/her the same way you treat all your students.
What if I have further questions?
