PIP Presents at NSDC
The New York City Peer Intervention Program is a unique, award-winning collaboration between the UFT and the NYC Department of Education. This December, we had the honor of presenting at the NSDC (National Staff Development Council) 37th Annual Conference on December 7, 2005 in Philadelphia.
Intervenors Debbie Ecker, Lynne Kilroy, Peter Lehrer, and Sabreen Lewis offered a workshop entitled “Peer Coaching and Other Effective Strategies: Supporting the Veteran Teacher” to an audience consisting of administrators, staff developers, and teacher leaders from various states around the country.
The presenters focused on inspiring, energizing, and refining the pedagogical practice of the veteran teacher. They showed how building trusting relationships, collecting and evaluating practice-based data, and collaborating and reflecting on the change process, can help the veteran teacher make positive changes in his or her practice.
The presentation was well-received as indicated by a sampling of the evaluation forms:
- "I thought the presentation well-organized and produced, nicely paced, professionally presented and terrifically helpful."
- " ... I'm glad to learn more specific, practical ideas from a successful program."
- "I thought this was excellent. You are well prepared; excellent handouts, moved quickly, very respectful.
- "Good nuts and bolts techniques for working with veteran teachers."
- "I am so grateful for this session. Thank you. Thank you…for giving me so much structure. I feel that I am ready to begin."
- "Excellent presentation."
- "The planning and reflection questions were excellent."
