PIP Showcase Accomplishments
by Joel Helfenbein The Peer Intervention Program is quite proud of its achievements this school year. In addition to the work we do everyday assisting veteran teachers and guidance counselors, the program was selected to present at both the local and national levels. In October, 2004, Program Coordinator Marilyn Chadwick and Outreach Liaison Joel Helfenbein presented at the New York State United Teachers’ Annual Statewide Conference on In-Service Education in Albany. Despite the cold, damp weather, there was a lot of warmth in the room when the presenters discussed with fellow educators, Using Data to Link Staff Development to Student Outcomes. The participants shared ideas and strategies as well as methodologies to help staff and students become more successful. Marilyn, Joel and Assistant Coordinator, Marcee Morris, were honored to present at the 36th Annual Conference of NSDC (National Staff Development Council) held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in December, 2004. Our workshop entitled, The New York City Peer Intervention Program - A Model for Effective Teaching was well-received and the feedback of those who attended was quite positive. These presentations have enabled our colleagues outside of New York City to gain additional information about some of the innovative and useful services which we provide in our continuing efforts to improve teacher excellence and student outcomes.
