Peer Intervention Program for Guidance Counselors
The UFT invites appointed GUIDANCE COUNSELORS to request assistance from the PEER INTERVENTION PROGRAM
In response to requests from guidance counselors, the UFT's Peer Intervention Program is now providing them with one-on-one assistance so that they may become more effective service providers and integral members of the school community. For more than 12 years, the union has provided similar assistance to NYC teachers who seek to maintain high standards and strengthen classroom performance. As with teachers, another component of the Program enables participants to pursue alternative options by revisiting their career goals.
If you participate, you and your assigned intervenor (a veteran Guidance Counselor with demonstrated counseling and peer assistance skills) will reach this goal by:
- Conferencing
- Sharing mutual concerns and goals
- Reassessing personal and professional strengths/weaknesses
- Offering support
- Assisting in the acquisition of new skills
- Planning and implementing an individualized professional development program
