Teacher Center
UFT Teacher Center offers professional development opportunities and events to members. See the New York Teacher and the Teacher Center Web site, www.ufttc.org for details of activities that include:
- Courses—graduate, in-service and “P” (professional) courses—plus master’s degree programs, collaboratively sponsored by Teacher Center with area colleges and universities, and often costing less than on-campus courses. Members receive the 3 courses’ catalogue inserts per year (August, January and May), published in the New York Teacher, which are also available at UFT offices.
- Coaching sessions assist members to prepare for state teacher examinations (the LAST, the ATS-W and the video component ATS-P).
- The Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention required 2-hour workshop, given throughout the city.
- Citywide weekend conferences offer further opportunities for professional growth.
- Current Teacher Center publications such as Special Edition are available online at www.ufttc.org and 1 per member at Teacher Center offices at 52 Broadway.
- Small-group activities such as study groups and new teacher work sessions designed for professional growth are available at some 300 Teacher Center school-based sites. If your school is not a Teacher Center site, you can find one near you through the Teacher Center online site list and attend activities there.
