For Subs Planning on Working More than 40 Days
If you plan to work more than 40 days a year, you should know more about educational deficiencies. What are they? Well, for provisional certification, the state requires that teachers have at minimum a certain number of credits in college education courses and either a year of student teaching or a year of supervised teaching as a sub. The requirements vary according to certification area. At the time you apply for your occasional per diem certificate, the board’s Office of Recruitment, Personnel Assessment and Licensing (ORPAL),Room 102 at 65 Court St. in Brooklyn, will review your transcripts and give you an educational plan outlining your educational deficiencies for state certification.
