HEALTH AND SAFETY BIOHAZARD ALERT
The New York City Department of Education must comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Act, Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, published in Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations 1910.1030. The standard requires employers who have employees with reasonable risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens to develop and implement an Exposure Control Plan that includes:
Identification of at risk employees
Offer the hepatitis B vaccine to affected employees free of charge and on work time
Provision of appropriate personal protective equipment
Establishment of a method of decontamination
Employee training
Post-exposure evaluation, follow-ups and recordkeeping.
