Showing support for Charter/Spectrum workers

Pat Arnow

UFT President Michael Mulgrew joined more than 1,000 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 3 members and their supporters at a rally outside Charter/Spectrum’s corporate offices on 23rd Street in Manhattan on Dec. 5. The 1,800 Charter/Spectrum workers have been on strike against the cable giant for 20 months to keep the company from destroying their retirement and health benefits, unfairly disciplining workers and threatening job security. “The UFT supports the Local 3 workers and asks that all of our elected leaders show their support for New York’s working families by refusing to cross the picket line,” said Mulgrew, who joined Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other elected and union leaders in calling for Charter/Spectrum to bargain in good faith. Mayor Bill de Blasio, Cuomo and other public figures have refused to make appearances on NY1 in solidarity with the striking workers. Local 3 on Dec. 10 called for subscribers to drop their cable service with the company.
