Welcome to home child care providers resolution (11-07)

Whereas, the United Federation of Teachers, in conjunction with ACORN, has been involved in a campaign to organize 28,000 home child care providers in New York City for the past two years; and
Whereas, many UFT members have played an invaluable role by contributing their time and effort to the campaign in numerous ways, including phoning providers, visiting providers’ homes and talking with them about the benefits of joining our union; and
Whereas, that effort has culminated in an overwhelming vote of 8,382 to 96 in favor of joining the UFT; therefore be it
Resolved, that the UFT deeply thanks our members for demonstrating their commitment to the ideals of unionism by participating in this campaign; and be it further
Resolved, that the United Federation of Teachers welcomes the Home Child Care Provider chapter into our union family; and be it finally
Resolved, that the UFT begin work immediately to secure a contract for our newest members.
