The 48th Anniversary of the UFT (3-08)

Whereas, on March 16th the UFT will celebrate its 48th anniversary; and
Whereas, the UFT was established on March 16, 1960 as a result of a merger between the Teachers Guild, AFT, AFL-CIO, and a High School teacher’s organization called the Committee for Action through Unity (C.A.T.U.); and
Whereas, since its founding, the UFT has become one of our nation’s greatest unions with 200,000 members and a history of outstanding accomplishments; be it therefore
Resolved, that on this 48th anniversary, we pay tribute to our founders and to our members who through the years, as a result of their loyalty and dedication, have made it possible for us today to proudly say, we are members of the United Federation of Teachers.
Passed at the March 5, 2008 UFT Delegate Assembly.
