Resolution on the creation of the Negotiating Committee:

WHEREAS, the previous contract negotiated in 2006 was favorably regarded by the majority of UFT members and ratified by an overwhelming majority; and

WHEREAS, the process that produced that contract involved an unprecedented large number of members through an enlarged negotiation committee and a membership poll; and

WHEREAS, the current contract between the United Federation of Teachers and the New York City Department of Education expires October 31, 2009; therefore be it

RESOLVED that once again the UFT create an expanded negotiation committee that will include active members from the ranks of teachers and functional chapters in addition to UFT officers and Executive Board members; and be it further

RESOLVED that the UFT encourage chapters to begin discussions this June about contract priorities; and be it further

RESOLVED that every district and level be represented on the constituted negotiating committee.

 

Passed at the June 24, 2009 Delegate Assembly.
