Resolution in support of the Art Institute of NYC’s faculty

WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees that oversees The Art Institute of NYC has voted to terminate the culinary program at the school; and
WHEREAS, the decision to discontinue the culinary program was made without any input from the faculty, which strongly supports continuation of the program; and
WHEREAS, the culinary program is a New York City institution, formerly known as The New York Restaurant School, that currently offers culinary AOS and certificate programs to more than 600 New York City students; and
WHEREAS, the remaining non-culinary programs at the Art Institute, serving hundreds of other students, will be impacted adversely as well if the culinary program is terminated; and
WHEREAS, the UFT represents the 110-member faculty at the Institute; be it therefore
RESOLVED, that the UFT seek to reverse the decision to terminate the school’s culinary program; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the UFT support our AiNYC Chapter members in their efforts to secure a just outcome in their fight to preserve their school.
