Bring the Troops Home rally resolution (10-07)

Whereas the UFT along with the AFT and the AFL-CIO has called for the rapid withdrawal of American military forces from Iraq, and

Whereas this ill-advised war has cost the lives of 3,798 American service men and women and has inflicted wounds on 27,936 more and cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, and

Whereas the war has cost this nation over $450 billion which negatively impacts on government spending for urgent domestic needs such as rebuilding our infra-structure, providing universal health care, and improving education, and

Whereas a significant number of local New York City labor unions have endorsed this demonstration and will join together as a labor contingent, be it

Resolved that the UFT support the October 27th New York City demonstration to bring the troops home, and be it further

Resolved that the UFT join together on October 27th with the New York City labor contingent and mobilize for this event, and be it further

Resolved, that the UFT advertise our support in the New York Teacher, the UFT website and at all union meetings.

Passed at the Oct. 17, 2007 UFT Delegate Assembly.
