    Six one-act plays put on by the UFT Players made for an evening of solid entertainment as the ensemble for its eighth year performed staged readings to a full house at UFT headquarters on Dec. 7.

    At a Meet the President event in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, on Dec. 4, some 230 educators from Districts 20, 21 and 22 met for a discussion of many issues affecting them professionally and asked questions about their concerns.

    More than 100 members from District 31 attended a Meet the President event with UFT President Michael Mulgrew on Dec. 11 and discussed topics ranging from Hurricane Sandy to teacher evaluations to the 2013 mayoral race.

    With the end of the Bloomberg era in sight and the 2013 mayoral contest on the horizon, more than 70 Brooklyn parents, students and school staff gathered at the UFT’s Brooklyn borough office on Dec. 10 to discuss their hopes for the next mayor’s education policies.

    Nearly 200 parents, grandparents and guardians turned out for the Oct. 20 parent conference in Brooklyn held at the UFT borough office. The full-day event, which included exhibitors and an Ask the Experts panel, gave parents information and resources to use and share with others.

    Billed as Close Encounters of the Third Kind: Mind, Body and Spirit, the third annual UFT Staten Island Parent Conference drew more than 150 people to the Hilton Garden Inn on Oct. 13 for a focus on the whole child.
