No shortcuts for charter schools

If charter schools in New York State are allowed to hire non-state-certified teachers, then those teachers should not be allowed to benefit from/organize through the UFT. Teachers who have earned all of the required certifications to be a teacher in New York State have fought long and hard through the union to earn our rights.

DREAMers deserve our support

As the VPerspective column in the June 1 issue [“Standing with our immigrant students”] said, I stand with the DREAMers, too. We MUST win this battle for the sake of the 800,000 DREAMers and the rest of us who appreciate what this country is supposed to be about.

In defense of immigrant rights

The immigration debate reported on in the New York Teacher [“Your fight is our fight,” June 1] reflects how important this issue is for the UFT.

All the right moves

I’m frequently astonished by the kind of fluent mathematical thinking that PS 748 teacher Shari Gigante develops in her students.

TMI wanted for parking permit

I work in a school where parking is limited. In order to get this permit, we are being asked to give a copy of our license and vehicle registration.

DeVos dismissed

Congratulations are in order for the graduating students of Bethune-Cookman University in Florida for soundly booing Secretary of Eradication Betsy DeVos while she attempted to speak at their commencement on May 10.
