Web restrictions should be eased

The DOE’s censorship (or restriction) of YouTube, Facebook and other sites throughout the entire schoolwide Internet system needs to be revisited. Although such media sites may have questionable or inappropriate material, they also have academically valuable material that would enrich many classrooms.

Insensitive edict

The following letter was sent to Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott after the author reported for work on Friday, Nov. 2: Thank you for your understanding during this time of hardship. However, we did not receive your email until almost 1 a.m. Most of us were already asleep, so we were unaware that we did not need to report until 10 a.m.

Principal lauds teachers

The following letter was sent to UFT President Michael Mulgrew one week after Hurricane Sandy: This challenging time has brought out the very best in our teachers. They are a testament of professionalism, excellence, and compassion. What I have witnessed during the past week from my teachers, many of whom are homeless such as myself, has been awe-inspiring and humbling.
