Most Teachers’ Retirement System members prefer to come in person to hand in their retirement applications and attachments. Of the 1,198 retirement applications received this school year by the retirement system, only 22 were mailed in. Bringing the application in person allows members to get a receipt and have their applications reviewed for completeness.

Pension fund does well by doing good

A small percentage of our retirement funds are invested in creating affordable housing and jobs in New York City neighborhoods. Called economically-targeted investments, these initiatives earn us market-rate returns. We do well by doing good.

Help loved ones by making end-of-life decisions

Every year as we grow older, we say to ourselves that there are discussions we must have with our parents, adult children or next of kin. Most of us, every year, put off what we fear will be an uncomfortable conversation. We recommend that you put it off no longer. You must have a conversation with your parents, adult children or next of kin — and you should do it sooner rather than later.
