Summer school hiring decisions made

The DOE notified the UFT on June 30 that all teachers, guidance counselors, secretaries and other titles with retention rights who applied for a summer school position will be hired for summer school this year.

Members getting summer school positions should receive notice from the DOE no later than Tuesday, July 1. If by the close of business on July 1 they haven’t heard from the DOE, they should call their UFT borough office.

Anyone with summer school retention rights who applied for a summer school position and did not get a job this year should file a grievance, union officials advised.
