Better watch out!

Santa (Washington Irving HS Chapter Leader Gregg Lundahl) and Weingarten encourage providers to come and share their complaints.

Santa was not at all happy to hear the grievances of home child care providers who spoke of their problems with bouncing checks, unpaid back pay, incorrect rate of pay, agency loss of their paperwork and the failure of some networks to provide services despite a monthly charge of $17. The providers complained to the members of the city’s Administration of Child Care Services — who were present at the Dec. 20 meeting at UFT headquarters — that they were not properly overseeing the child care networks. UFT President Randi Weingarten acknowledged that there have been improvements: “Now we can say the union is calling and things get fixed. .... Next year, let’s make sure all these grievances are off the list or we will have to take action.”

Madeline Melendez (left) and Marianna Cora, seated in front of Santa’s list of the “naughty networks,” speak of their problems with their networks.
