Dance Revolution

Workshop participants share the stage with Lynch (in back with a red shirt).

Aubrey Lynch, associate producer of “The Lion King” and former principal dancer for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, shared his experiences performing and helping to create the hit musical at a workshop for PS 94, Manhattan, students on March 6; they are in rehearsal for a school production of the musical “Annie.” The school is the first District 75 school to receive the Shubert Foundation/Music Theatre International grant to launch a performing arts program in the entirely special education school.

First-year teacher Tessa Derfiner, who came from a career in the performing arts and who obtained the grant, listens with delight to Lynch’s theater stories, backed by Principal Ronnie Shuster.
