UFT retiree visits North Pole
Rozdon plants a UFT banner at the North Pole because “I’m proud of my union.”
Ravi Rozdon, the UFT’s own Commander Robert Peary, planted the UFT flag on the North Pole this past summer, rounding out an earlier polar expedition to the South Pole where he also tried to plant the UFT flag “but the Emperor penguins shooed me off, claiming continental divide and rule.” After almost 30 years in the public school system, Rovdon is now enjoying a retirement that allows him to continue traveling because, he said, “Wise union leaders made sure there would be money for us in retirement.”
After five days aboard this Russian nuclear-powered ice cutter that sailed from Meurmansk, Russia, passengers touched ground on an ice floe at the Pole.
The 150 passengers celebrate their landing, an occasion they share with only an estimated 23,000 earlier visitors.
