One of the first Green Schools in the state opened this year in Washington Heights, in the new home of PS/IS 210, Manhattan, which moved from its old location at Broadway and W. 173 Street to West 152 St. and Amsterdam Avenue. “Everything about the school is child-friendly,” said UFT District 6 Representative Martin Plotkin, who lobbied to bring the Green Schools program to Upper Manhattan and led a team of NYSUT safety and health experts on a Nov. 3 walk-through. The school has all of the latest environmentally friendly assets, he said, showing them the adjacent atrium which catches sunlight to warm the building and save money on fuel. “Everything about it is spectacular,” Plotkin said. The atrium is also used for indoor sports and other activities for the kids at the pre-K-8 school.
