Observing Passover

Eighty UFT members participated in a Passover seder at the union’s Brooklyn office in mid-April. The event was sponsored by the UFT Jewish Heritage Committee and was organized by UFT District 15 Representative Robert Zuckerberg and retired district rep Yvette Geary. The program director was Josie Levine, who chairs the UFT Media Committee. Zuckerberg described the secular seder, with guests reading from the Haggadah, as an epicurean delight. “We had a diverse group,” Zuckerberg said. “We were blessed by not one, but two rabbis.” They were Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, executive vice president of the New York Board of Rabbis, and Rabbi Craig Miller, vice president of the New York Board of Rabbis and the Hillel chaplain at Baruch College. Funds from the event will be used to support the Holocaust Studies Program that the national Jewish Labor Committee runs every summer.
