Providers’ picketing gets results

Bonnie Sepulveva makes it loud and clear, “ACS, fix this mess!”

Home child care providers, protesting another round of late paychecks, picketed on April 18 in front of East Bronx Day Care, the provider network responsible for paying them. Doris Irizarry, who led the protest, said that she and approximately 20 other providers were waiting for late checks and that this wasn’t the first time. Providers in other networks have also reported payment problems. Irizarry reported a phone call of apology for the delay from an official of the Administration of Child Services who agreed to hold ongoing meetings to address provider issues. The providers received their checks on April 23. “The rally shows that by sticking together — the UFT, providers and ACORN — we get things done,” Irizarry noted.

Rally leader Irizarry joins the chorus, “East Bronx ... shame on you.”

UFT Vice President Michelle Bodden leads the chanting protesters.
