Saturday for secretaries
Feb 28, 2008 12:29 PM
Between workshops, Chapter Leader Jackie Ervolina (left) has a chance to talk with Esthere Nunez (center) of the Humanities Complex and Mary Newman of PS/MS 306 in Brooklyn.
One hundred and twenty school secretaries spent the first Saturday of the new year, Jan. 5, at their 15th annual winter seminar. The daylong staff development event at UFT headquarters included workshops on payroll and personnel, procurement and pupil accounting. Howard Solomon, director of the UFT Grievance Department, brought the school secretaries up to date on their contentious arbitration over other titles doing the work of licensed secretaries, a situation they have grieved over the years but that remains unsettled. UFT Assistant Treasurer Mona Romain explained the importance of the 55/25 retirement victory and the importance of tax-deferred annuities for both new and experienced secretaries.
Pens are busy as secretaries take note of what’s new at the “Pupil Accounting” workshop.
