Does feminism matter? What is its proper place in today’s world? UFT President Randi Weingarten was part of a panel that included Ann Lewis, strategist for Sen. Hillary Clinton; Janice Min, editor-in-chief of US Weekly; Lynne Brown, NYU senior vice president; and Community Board 1 Chair Julie Menin to lead a discussion of “A Woman’s Agenda in Today’s Political Life.” The Oct. 23 event was jointly sponsored by the Women’s Campaign Forum and the NYU Robert Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. The panelists and audience all felt that there must be more gender-based representation to address women’s issues such as health care, child and elder care and education. They also felt that women must be boldly encouraged to run for office and that they must be given all the support, training and resources necessary for leadership, especially in executive, judicial and legislative positions.
