Standing up against hate

High school students from all five boroughs took part in the “Day Out Against Hate” sponsored by City Council Speaker Christine Quinn on Nov. 29 in response to a 20-percent increase in reported hate crimes in New York City. "You can only fight hate and win when good people stand up and say they won't tolerate hate," Quinn, who attended events in every borough, said at the Petrides School in Staten Island.

Quinn addresses those participating in the Staten Island event.

Susan Wagner HS Chapter Leader George Anthony meets with his students.

Students take their turn on stage.
