To test or not to test ...

The role and design of tests and assessment mandates, including how they are developed and impact day-to-day instruction, was the theme of an Oct. 25 public forum sponsored by Community District 26. More than 300 teachers and community members heard three panelists — UFT President Randi Weingarten; Robert Tobias, director of the NYU Steinhardt Center for Research on Teaching and Learning; and Jane Hirschmann, founder of Time Out From Testing — agree to varying degrees on the need for redirection in the current practice of high-stakes testing.

Part of the crowd of 300 listens intently.
