CIGNA makes changes in health plan

CIGNA HMO is becoming an Open Access Plus In-Network (OAPIN) plan on July 1. This will allow subscribers to choose any doctor from a national network without referrals. Some 95 percent of the doctors and hospitals that CIGNA members in New York City are currently using will be in the network.

The plan also includes the Well Aware for Better Health disease management program, which provides support and information for subscribers who have chronic illnesses, and the CIGNA Healthy Rewards discount program.

New rates for the OAPIN plan are $10 for a doctor office visit, down from $15 in the HMO plan, and $10 for a visit to a specialist, down from $15.

Prescription drug costs for a 30-day supply will be $10 for a generic and $10 for a preferred brand. For a 90-day supply, $10 for a generic and $40 for a preferred brand. A 90-day supply of a non-preferred brand will be $100.

Subscribers will receive a new ID card in the mail.
