Looking for a summer read that will help you in the classroom, too? Teacher Magazine Web moderator Anthony Rubora asked readers to name the one book they considered the single best on teaching. He got a lot of replies. Among them was “Teachers Change Lives 24/7: 150 Ways to Do It Right,” by Jim Burgett, which the reader recommending it called a “very practical, inspirational, meaningful and useful book for the classroom teacher.” Also “Team Work: Setting the Standard for Collaborative Teaching, Grades 5-9,” by Monique Wild, Amanda Mayeaux and Kathryn Edmonds, which includes “suggestions about making connections with families, engaging students, and making the standards work for you.”
“Papers Papers Papers: An English Teacher’s Survival Guide” by Carol Jago was on a number of lists, as was “The Essential 55” by Ron Clark, which lists “55 rules for discovering the successful student in every child.”
“Why Are School Buses Always Yellow?” by John Barell was said to feature “very practical and easy to implement questioning strategies told by a great storyteller and professor” who “reminds us that student questions are the attainment of the highest thinking skills.”
