A few weeks ago the UFT gave away another million dollars. Just gave it away. That makes 39 million over the years. And it was one of the best things the union could have done.
On June 3, the union held the 39th annual Albert Shanker Scholarship Awards ceremony. Some 215 New York City public school students received the awards to help cover their costs of going to college or graduate school.
Many of these kids are recent immigrants or youngsters who have had to struggle to achieve academic success. Many of them have dramatic stories to tell. Many of them have heart-warming stories to tell of sacrifice and dedication.
All of them worked very hard to win the awards.
UFT members should be very proud of the union for just giving away money like this.
