Free Teacher Tuesdays at Bodies...The Exhibition

Bodies…The Exhibition announced the launch of Teacher Tuesdays beginning Tuesday, Dec. 1. Teachers can preview the the Exhibition free of charge. Teachers must provide proof of employment as a teacher and must attend during normal operational hours, Tuesdays 10 a.m.–6 p.m.  Additional non-educator guests can purchase tickets at the Box Office. Bodies…The Exhibition features 19 real human bodies dissected to show various internal systems. You will also see over 250 individual organs - some healthy, some diseased. Teachers and students can learn about anatomy but also about public health issues that affect us all. The Exhibition offers an audio tour in addition to downloadable, free comprehensive Teacher’s Guides for elementary, middle, high school and post-secondary levels with experiential classroom activities aligned to the National Academic Standards and the State Content Standards for New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania. The Peoples' Symphony Concerts

The Peoples' Symphony Concerts offers the gift of music to families, students and workers who are unable to pay regular ticket prices for concerts. Differentiated Instruction – Part 2
9 a.m.–1 p.m., 52 Broadway. Continues the discussion as participants learn what it means to differentiate instruction. Explore ways to set up a differentiated classroom and learn how to manage one that supports differentiated instruction. Participants engage in hands-on activities that serve as models for planning for differentiated instruction for immediate use in your classroom. Read Out Loud! Family Literacy Festival
11 a.m.– 3 p.m., at PS 125, The Ralph Bunche School, 425 W 123rd St (between Amsterdam Ave. and Morningside Ave). District 5 in Collaboration with Morningside Area Alliance is pleased to announce a district wide Family Literacy Day. Families and children are invited to the annual Read Out Loud! a family literacy festival. Everything is free for families – books, storytelling, creative arts activities and workshops. Children’s authors will read aloud from their books and sign copies to give away to participating children. This event is geared to students and families in District 5 elementary schools. Educator Workshop: From Beavers to Blackberries
4:30–6:30 p.m., at the Museum of the City of New York, 1220 Fifth Avenue, at 103rd Street, Manhattan. Teachers of all grades are welcome; the workshop content is geared towards elementary and middle school teachers and correlates to both elementary and middle school Social Studies Standards 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. It supports ELL Elementary & Intermediate Reading and Writing and is correlated to the Arts Blueprint. What might the island of Manhattan have looked like before the Europeans arrived? How did European politics affect the settlement of New Amsterdam? If we could take a journey back in time to the early years of this city, whom would we meet and what would we see? This workshop will focus on the evolution of trade and transportation in New York City’s history. Participants will partake in a gallery tour, an educator-led workshop and will receive pre-and post-visit materials to use in the classroom.
