Contract for Excellence hearings

Keep the Promises Coaltion members, parents, students and other activists were out in force in June for the public hearings in each borough to discuss how to spend state Contract for Excellence funding. At all of the final four two-hour sessions, speaker after speaker condemned the city Department of Education’s attempt to loosen the state’s requirements on how those funds should be spent.

Manhattan

Coalition members show their displeasure for the proposed cuts at the June 17 hearing at the HS for Fashion Industries.

Brooklyn

UFT Director of Staff LeRoy Barr and Blanco Guerro, a parent at IS 38, lash into the planned budget cuts at a hearing at Boys and Girls HS on June 12.

Bronx

At a June 11 hearing at Dewitt Clinton HS, Jack Israel of Clinton and Samantha Fonseca, a paraprofessional at PS 170, take the microphone.

Queens

This group is well-armed to get its message out on June 19 at a hearing at IS 230.
