Mona Romain
UFT Assistant Treasurer Mona Romain has been re-elected to her fourth three-year term as a teacher-member of the Teachers’ Retirement Board. She was first elected in 1998 to complete the term of her predecessor, Phyllis Wallach.
Since she ran without opposition, the election scheduled for May 14 was canceled and Schools Chancellor Joel Klein cast one ballot for Romain.
Endorsed by the Delegate Assembly, Romain had the strong backing of UFT President Randi Weingarten as well as the other teacher-members of the TRS board, UFT Treasurer Mel Aaronson and Sandra March.
Romain was assistant secretary of the union from 1996 to 2001, when she was elected assistant treasurer, and has been a special representative in the union’s pension department since 1990.
