The city’s home child care providers, who voted overwhelmingly in October to become part of the UFT, were welcomed to the union at the Oct. 29 meeting of the Executive Board at UFT headquarters. The first order of business that night was to vote on a resolution, which passed unanimously, welcoming the 28,000 new members to the union. The union also testified before the State Assembly Standing Committees on Labor, Children and Families, and Social Services on Nov. 7 to call for more funding and support for the providers. [A complete report will run in the Dec. 6 issue.] below: After joining together to sing “Solidarity Forever” led by founding UFT members (behind podium, from left) George Altomare and Abe Levine, the providers showed their appreciation for the warm welcome before sharing a specially made cake.
