WTC Visitor Center seeks teachers to conduct tours
Apr 10, 2008 12:15 PM
The Tribute WTC Visitor Center is looking for volunteers to conduct walking tours near the World Trade Center site. The center is especially seeking teachers who worked in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001, and can share how they experienced and discussed these unprecedented events with their students.
Volunteers will be trained to provide an hour-long tour to thousands of visitors, adults and students from around the world, sharing the events of 9/11, the aftermath and their own personal experience.
The Tribute WTC Visitor Center, created by the September 11th Families Association, serves more than 350,000 visitors a year. Located across from the WTC site, at 120 Liberty St., Tribute contains five galleries and offers unique personal walking tours seven days a week. Volunteer training consists of one weekend session, followed by individually scheduled training sessions.
Volunteers work a minimum of six to eight hours a month.
One retired teacher who volunteers at Tribute said: “I can present the events of 9/11 not only as someone who lost a loved one, but also to discuss how so many people were moved to help each other and to underline Tribute’s ultimate message for tolerance and understanding between people.”
