Reading grants: The International Reading Association is seeking applications for the Regie Routman Teacher Recognition Grant, which honors an outstanding regular classroom elementary teacher of reading and language arts in grades K-6. Applicants must be dedicated to improving teaching and learning through reflective writing about their teaching and learning process. One grant of $2,500 will be awarded. General education K-6 reading and language arts teachers can apply. Applicants must be association members. DEADLINE: Nov. 1. Implementation grants: The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics solicits proposals for its Content Standards Implementation Grants, which are intended to increase mathematics content knowledge for one or more of the Content Standards defined by the Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics of NCTM. Grants of $3,000 are offered. Teachers currently working in 7-12 grade levels can apply. Applicants must be a member or teach at a school with a current NCTM K-8 school membership. Proposals must address: alignment with the content standard; a plan for developing and evaluating lessons; mathematics content of the lessons; and the anticipated impact on students’ learning. Music grants: The Music is Revolution Foundation administers grants for activities designed by teachers to implement, support and/or improve their ability to provide quality music education for their students. Grants are for up to $500 and must be used for supplies, materials, equipment, transportation for a field trip and/or to bring a performer/musical group to the school. Foundation grants: The Dreyer’s Foundation provides monetary and in-kind donations to youth in grades Pre-K–12, so students succeed in core academic subjects and graduate to post secondary education and/or vocational training; and to support nonprofit organizations for events. Preschools and K–12 public schools can apply for small grants of up to $3,000 and in-kind donations of ice cream products and gift certificates/auction items. Large grants of more than $3,000 are also available. DEADLINE: The seventh day of each month for small grants and product donations; Jan. 15 for large grants. AIAA grants: The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics solicits nominations for the Foundation Educator Achievement Award, which recognizes the accomplishments an educator has made by exciting students in the areas of math and science. Seven winners (and a guest) will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala. K–12 educators can apply. DEADLINE: Sept. 30. CONTACT: www.aiaa.org.
Best Buy grants: Best Buy is accepting applications for the Best Buy Teach Award program, which recognizes creative uses of interactive technology in K–12 classrooms and rewards those that have successfully launched an interactive program using available technology. Preference is given to programs that focus on kids using technology to learn standards-based curriculum. Grants from $1,000 to $5,000 will be awarded to programs that engage students at any grade level; and up to 15 awards of $10,000 to schools serving 9th grade students. All awards will be in the form of Best Buy Gift Cards. All K-12 schools are eligible to apply. Applications must be completed by educators who have been at the school for at least one academic year.
