Art teachers fellowship: The Surdna Foundation is accepting applications for the Surdna Arts Teachers Fellowship Program. The program reconnects teachers with the artistic processes they teach by providing them with grants to immerse themselves in their own creative work, interact with other professional artists and stay current with new practices. Twenty awards of up to $5,000 with a complementary grant of $1,500 to the fellow’s school to support post-fellowship activities will be awarded. DEADLINE: Nov. 14. Environmental Excellence awards: SeaWorld/Busch Gardens is accepting applications for the Environmental Excellence Awards, which recognize the efforts of K-12 students and teachers across the country who are working at the grassroots level to protect and preserve the environment. Eight winning groups will receive $10,000 and one educator/leader will receive $5,000. DEADLINE: Nov. 28. Math grants: The National Council of Mathematics requests proposals for the Emerging Teacher-Leaders in Elementary School Mathematics Grants, which is supported by the Irene Etkowicz Eizen Fund. The purpose of the grant is to increase the breadth and depth of the mathematics content knowledge of an elementary school teacher who has demonstrated commitment to mathematics teaching and learning. K-5 teachers can apply for a $6,000 grant. Applicants must be a current member of NCTM; have at least three years of experience; have mathematics as a regular teaching responsibility; and not be a previous recipient. DEADLINE: Nov. 14. Professional Development grants: The Foundation for Technology Education Greer/FTE Grant encourages professional development of classroom teachers and supervisors in technology education. Technology education teachers or supervisors for grades 6-12 who are members of the International Technology Education Association can apply for a $1,000 grant to offset the expenses of attending an International Technology Education Association Conference. Special projects grants: The Dirksen Congressional Center is accepting applications for Robert H. Michel Special Projects Grants which support work to enhance the understanding of the U.S. Congress through research and teaching. Grants range from $2,500 to $5,000. Scholars who conduct research and teachers who teach social studies, history, political science and other subjects relating to Congress can apply. Projects that have received funding in the past include: conferences that bring together congressional scholars; the collection or publication of resources useful for research; efforts by teachers to develop creative ways to teach about Congress; and publications, especially those with appeal beyond academia. Fund-raising grants: Top School Fundraisers connect schools with resources so they can carry out their own fund raising. This year to kick off the fall school year they’ve decided to offer more than just advice; they’re giving away cold, hard cash. There is no purchase necessary in order to be eligible for this program. Any school, pre-K- 12, can apply for grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. To apply for a grant, you must prepare a presentation describing how the grant will enhance the educational opportunities for your school. You must write an essay, create a video presentation or any other idea that would be appropriate. Registration forms are available online. DEADLINE: Dec. 31. CONTACT: topschoolfundraisers.com.
