Vantage Learning: Vantage Learning is accepting applications for the Vantage Learning Education Initiative to provide more than $650,000 in grants, endowments and subsidies to districts throughout the country for the company’s software tool MY Access. The grant includes installation and professional development. Grants average about $50,000. K–12 schools can apply. Districts/schools do not have to be current MY Access clients in order to apply or receive a grant. DEADLINE: Rolling. Art educators grants: The National Arts Education Association is accepting proposals for the SHIP Grants, which are awarded to arts educators for art equipment and/or instructional curriculum resources used to focus on student learning specifically related to National Visual Arts Standards. Grants are up to $500. Art educators who have been NAEA members for at least one year prior to the date of application can apply. DEADLINE: Oct. 1. Field trip grants: Target is accepting applications for the Target Field Trip Grants Program to help teachers bring learning to life for students and enhance classroom studies. Full-time educators, principals, paraprofessionals or classified staff employed by K–12 public, private or charter schools can apply for grants of up to $800. Grants may be used to cover the cost of transportation, entry fees, supplies and classroom resource materials. DEADLINE: Applications will be accepted until Nov. 3. Funding for sports: The Ultimate Players Association seeks to promote growth in Ultimate and Ultimate Spirit, to create links between the UPA and local organizers, to serve members’ needs and to create documentation that will inspire others to further innovation and excellence. Grants of up to $1,500 are available for the development of brand new youth programs including teams, leagues and camps, as well as proposals to develop materials such as statistics, video, written projects and more. Making a difference award: The Drug, Chemical and Associated Technologies Association and the National Science Teachers Association are accepting applications for the DCAT Making a Difference Award, which recognizes and honors excellence in a science program that impacts the lives of grades 6–12 students. $2,500 will be awarded to the school along with airfare and two nights accommodations for the lead science teacher and principal to attend the NSTA National Conference on Science Education. The program must be in effect at the time of application and operational for at least one year. Entries must show effective teaching strategies combined with a science program that has influenced students to initiate or extend their interests in the exploration and investigation of science and its application to global problems and demonstrate that the science program can be replicated and used as a model in other middle schools. Science teaching awards: Delta Education, in partnership with Frey-Neo, CPO Science LLC, and the National Science Teachers Association, is accepting nominations for the Excellence in Inquiry-Based Science Teaching Awards, which recognizes three full-time pre-K–12 teachers of science who successfully use inquiry-based science to enhance teaching and learning in their classroom. Awards consist of a $1,500 prize and an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the NSTA National Conference on Science (up to $1,500). Full-time pre-K–12 science teachers who have taught for at least one year can apply. Three awards will be presented, one each in elementary, middle and high school. DEADLINE: Nov. 30. Manufacturing engineers education grants: The Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation seeks to expose students to science, technology, engineering and mathematics in order to help them make an informed decision about pursuing a career in these disciplines. The foundation is particularly interested in the creation of a pathway that will offer students information and awareness beginning in elementary school and continuing through middle and high school, leading to post-secondary options. K–12 schools can apply for grants. In 2007, the foundation provided more than $1.8 million in charitable grants. Some emphasis is placed on initiatives involving women and minority students. Physics grants: The American Association of Physics Teachers requests applications for the Frederick and Florence Bauder Endowment for the Support of Physics Teaching. The fund provides support for special activities in physics teaching. AAPT members can apply for grants of up to $500. Grants may be used for the following: The development and distribution of innovative apparatus for physics teaching; to obtain or build and support traveling exhibits of apparatus; and local workshops for teachers who spread the use of demonstration and laboratory equipment. Climate Change and Energy Efficiency Challenge: The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority is offering awards of up to $500 per classroom to spur creative approaches to encouraging energy-efficient behavior in school, at home and in the community. NYSERDA’s Energy Smart Students program will fund up to 30 innovative projects that increase students’ energy and global-climate-change knowledge and awareness, while providing student leadership opportunities and outreach to the community. Kindergarten through grade 12 teachers and informal educators are invited to apply. Funds can be used to purchase supplies or equipment for hands-on activities related to energy efficiency or for community education events. Winners will be chosen based on their creativity in delivering the climate change message and the extent to which students take a leadership role in school and community efforts.
