Science teacher award:

The ISI Outstanding Information Science Teacher Award, offered by the American Society for Information Science and Technology, recognizes the unique teaching contribution of an individual as a teacher of information science. The recipient of the $1,000 award need not be a member of the society, but must be directly engaged in teaching some aspect of information science on a continuing basis, in an academic or a nonacademic setting. Weather education grants:

The National Weather Association (NWA) is accepting applications for its Sol Hirsch Education Grants program. The grants are awarded to teachers in grades K–12 to help improve the education of their students in meteorology. Applicants can take an accredited course in atmospheric sciences, attend a relevant workshop or conference, or purchase scientific materials or equipment for the classroom. Grants are $500 each. Challenge 20/20 Partnership:

The National Association of Independent Schools has created Challenge 20/20, a program that brings together two schools: one from the United States and one from outside the country. Teacher-student teams from both schools work together throughout the fall 2008 school semester to come up with a solution to a global problem. Challenge 20/20 is based on Jean Francois Rischard’s book, “High Noon: 20 Global Problems, 20 Years to Solve Them.” Eligibility: All U.S. schools, elementary and secondary, public or private. Create a Winning Classroom:

Carson-Dellosa Publishing, Inc., a teacher source for educationally sound products that make learning fun, is calling on all teachers to be their most creative this fall with the “Create a Winning Classroom” contest. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to try to create a fun, motivating, curriculum-focused classroom with teacher-tested Carson-Dellosa decorative products. The winning teacher will receive a $1,000 shopping spree at his or her favorite teacher supply store. To apply teachers need to submit a description of their most creative and educational classroom environment online or by picking up an entry form wherever Carson-Dellosa products are sold. DEADLINE: The contest begins July 1 and ends Sept. 15. Math and Science camp for teachers:

The Mickelson ExxonMobil 2009 Teachers Academy offers a five-day program, with camps in New Jersey, Texas and Louisiana, designed to provide 3rd- through 5th-grade teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to motivate students to pursue careers in science and math. Maximum award: all-expenses-paid five-day program in July 2009. Eligibility: 3rd- through 5th-grade teachers from all over the United States. DEADLINE: Oct. 31. CONTACT: www.sendmyteacher.com.

Yearbook Adviser of the Year:

The Journalism Education Association is seeking applications for the National High School Yearbook Adviser of the Year program, which is designed to honor outstanding high school advisers and their exemplary work from the previous year, as well as throughout their career. The winner’s school will receive $1,000. Up to four $500 awards for each Distinguished Advisers’ school that may be used to buy equipment for the yearbook classroom or fund student scholarships to summer workshops will also be given out. The winner will also receive travel and hotel accommodations to attend the convention where the award will be presented. Individuals serving as high school yearbook advisers are eligible. Applicants must submit a current yearbook and send in a complete application package to be considered. DEADLINE: Oct. 1. Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad program:

The Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program provides opportunities for overseas experience. The program is open to educators and administrators with responsibilities for curriculum development in fields related to humanities, languages and area studies. Topics and host countries vary from year to year. All seminars are in non-western European countries. The program is geared toward educators with little or no experience in host countries who demonstrate the need to develop and enhance their curriculum through short-term study and travel abroad. There are nine seminars being offered for Summer 2009 with 16 positions per seminar. Seminars take place from late June to mid August for a duration of four to six weeks. The awards include round-trip airfare, room and board, fees, program-related travel within the host countries. Participants are responsible for a cost share of $400. Forms are now available online.
