Letters to the Editor

Baby Einstein not so smart

I read with interest your News Briefs item on the Baby Einstein tapes [Sept. 6 issue] reported from the Denver Post. I, too, objected to a Baby Einstein tape, but for a different reason.

The “language” tape exposes the viewer to counting in different languages and shows images of objects, but the numeration doesn’t agree with the image. A phone call to Baby Einstein resulted in a return call from the author, who reasoned that the tape was only meant to expose little ears to foreign sounds. But what about the older siblings who might be there and who are counting?

As past president of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics in New York City, I am very disappointed that nothing has changed.
