Bloomberg’s hit squad

To the Editor:

By hiring a team of lawyers and former principals to go after tenured teachers, Mayor Bloomberg has hit an all-time low.

For years it has been no secret that Bloomberg and Schools Chancellor Joel Klein have been waging war on our city’s teachers, in particular those on the higher end of the salary scale. While teachers are protected by tenure, they can be removed after due process (which is really what tenure is). Bloomberg’s hit squad will actually try to fire teachers without due process.

He will give the usual buzzwords of “incompetence” and “accountability.” But the truth of the matter is, his

$1 million team will actually bring charges of incompetence against veteran teachers so that two newbies can be hired for the price of one, and get rid of teachers who wish to teach using proven methodology rather than the chancellor’s asinine curriculum, or teachers like me who are willing to speak out against the madness.
