Letters to the Editor

Listen to those with classroom experience

To the Editor,

There is a spate of administrative personnel of limited experience who have not come up through the ranks of classroom instruction. This creates an environment where authority figures are creating dialogue and making decisions based on theoretical concepts garnered through research and data. The administrative rhetoric of research and data has made me uneasy as I ponder the widening chasm between administrator and teacher.

If we are not going to insist that academic leaders have extensive classroom experience (although we should), then I have a suggestion: let them ask and listen to those of us who do. Mayor Bloomberg and Chancellor Klein would do well to heed such advice.
