Letters to the Editor
The UFT has taken us a long way

To the Editor:
How delightful to belong to an organization that continually looks out for the welfare of its members! I refer to the letter and check I got in the late summer with a refund of my dues overpayment. We used to have to get all sorts of documentation if we were retired and still had another position at the Department of Education.
It now seems to be totally automated, so that one doesn’t have to keep track of yet more paperwork.
I especially loved Randi’s line in the letter: “Thank you again for being a New York City Educator.” More people should say that.
What a shame that I’m not 50 years younger, starting out all over again with the blessings of a strong union, instead of the internecine chaos that we faced prior to the success of the UFT in organizing all of us. Would that the new ones coming in had a sense of our struggles in the past and how far we’ve come.
Thank you, Randi (and others), for taking care of all of us — neophyte or nonagenarian!
