Letters to the Editor

Lower class sizes, better resources should be priorities

To the Editor:

Pouring limited resources into merit pay and not into lowering classroom size and providing adequate classroom resources should bring a cry of outrage from every teacher in New York City.

Increased pay is not the problem, nor the solution, to increasing teacher proficiency and student performance. Ask the teachers and they will tell you: Lowering class size and providing better teaching resources makes far more sense than merit pay and is a better use of limited taxpayer dollars.
