Letters to the Editor

Overload fight continues

To the Editor:

Many thanks to Jim Callaghan for his thorough and thoughtful coverage of the crisis that school psychologists and school social workers are facing since the reorganizations of special education began in 2003. The ability of my members to provide services to children in an ethical and professional manner has been greatly compromised by an overload of job responsibilities and paperwork.

Jim’s article has given us the means to communicate these serious issues to the community at large. We need everyone’s support in order to effectively fight back against the DOE’s lack of concern for the children and families of New York City.

We hope that everyone will join us at our rally on behalf of school psychologists on April 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Panel for Educational Policy meeting, Frank Sinatra School for the Arts, 30-20 Thompson Ave., Long Island City. See you there!
