Letters to the Editor

Paper treats secretaries unfairly

To the Editor:

I have a gripe. Can you tell me why the school secretary seems to be left out of so much in the union paper? Just now I opened the Oct. 4 paper and was greeted on page 2 with the salary increase that begins on Oct. 13. What do I see? The salary rates for teachers and paraprofessionals. Yes, I know that I can find out the new rates on the computer, but I shouldn’t have to do that.

As members in good standing with the UFT, I feel that school secretaries are truly treated like second-class citizens by our union. Perhaps our union should take into consideration all of the professionals that make up its ranks.
