Letters to the Editor

Speakout was right on

To the Editor:

Peter Goodman’s article “What teaching is all about” [June 5] is right on the mark! I, too, had a long career in the classroom — over a half a century. I can count on 10 fingers the number of “lesson plans” I bothered with. Principals and department chairmen can exaggerate their value to their heart’s content. I can tell you it is mostly B.S. Teaching is a gift one possesses. Either the teacher can or cannot communicate.

Today, computers, Internets, bloggers, etc., have taken over. Surely that is why students can no longer speak nor write correct English, despite the delusions of chancellors or school superintendents. I thank Providence I could retire before the disaster.
